Nazi War Criminals
From the Series Understanding the Holocaust
At the end of World War II, the victorious Allies decided to put Nazi Germany's leaders on trial for their many crimes against humanity, including the attempted genocide known as the Holocaust. The Nazis' supreme leader, Adolf Hitler, had committed suicide as Germany was collapsing, so he could not be punished. However, hundreds of his generals, assistants, and henchmen were tried in the German town of Nuremberg, while hundreds more fled, setting in motion a global effort to bring these war criminals to justice.

Each volume in this series begins with the same two-page timeline. A brief introduction discusses the main issue, followed by chapters which elaborate various aspects. Each chapter has several images, making for a quick read. The images are repeated in other volumes. Quotations are often from secondary or tertiary sources. The series is thought-provoking and gripping, particularly the volumes dealing with children, resistance, the camps, and survivors. These are attractive books that are easy-to-read and hard to put down. The series is a valuable reference source as well.Bibliography. Index.
